Kelo-cote^®, with patented cross-link technology, is intended for the managment of old and new scars, including hpertrophic and keloids, resulting from general surgical procedures, trauma, wounds and burns.

Kelo-cote^® is a lightweight, self-drying silicone gel for the treatment of scars. Kelo-cote^® has been shown to flatten, soften and smooth scars, relieve the itching and discomfort of scars, as well as reduce the discolouration associated with scars.

Kelo-cote^® is a patented proprietary formula containing bio-inert and bio-compatible silicone compounds, namely polysiloxane, silicone dioxide and non-volatile silicone components. It is therefore intended for the use on children or people with sensitive skin.

Kelo-cote^® rapidly dries to form a sheet; this silicone gel sheet layer is gas permeable, flexible and waterproof. Kelo-cote^® forms a bond with the stratum corneum (the outer layer of dead skin cells) forming a protective barrier against chemical, physical and microbial invasion of the scar site while assisting with hydration. This creates an environment which allows the scar to mature through normalized collagen synthesis cycles, and improves the physiological and cosmetic appearance of the scar.

When using Kelo-cote^®, the recommended minimum treatment time is 60–90 days. Larger and older scars may take longer and continued use is recommended if improvement is still seen after the initial 90 days.

• Ensure that the affected area is clean and dry.
• Apply Kelo-cote^® to the area as a very thin layer and allow to dry.
• Apply Kelo-cote^® once daily, or twice daily to areas exposed to abrasion.
• For maximum effect, Kelo-cote^® Gel should have 24 hour contact with the skin.
• Once dry, Kelo-cote^® can be covered with pressure garments, sun block or cosmetics.

If Kelo-cote^® has not dried within 4–5 minutes, you have probably used too much. Gently remove the excess and allow the drying process to continue.

Keloid scars are thick, rounded, irregular clusters of scar tissue that extend beyond the original wound. Keloids may occur at any age, but tend to develop more readily in younger individuals and in darker-skinned people. They often appear red or darker in colour when compared with the surrounding skin. Keloids may not develop for many months after injury, and can worsen during pregnancy.

Hypertrophic scars are usually red, thick and elevated and can be itchy or painful. The growth of hypertrophic scars is confined to the boundaries of the original wound, and usually develops in the weeks after the trauma (linear hypertrophic scar) or burn injury (widespread hypertrophic scar). These scars may improve naturally; the process can take up to a year or more.

Kelo-cote^® has become the treatment of choice for post laser use and is especially effective in the reduction and elimination of erythema (redness) associated with dermatological laser procedures. Kelo-cote^® must not be used on broken skin.

In serevral medical studies Kelo-cote^® has been proven to flatten, soften, smooth and dramatically improve the discolouration noted with these types of aggressive scars.

Kelo-cote^® has all the benefits of silicone sheets without the problems. Tape allergies, difficulty of use, and the potential for bacteria growth between the sheet and the skin are all problems inherent with sheeting

Kelo-cote^® is for external use only. Direct contact with eyes, mucous membranes, third degree burns and open wounds should be avoided. Kelo-cote^® should not be used on dermatological conditions that disrupt the integrity of the skin.

Kelo-cote^® has been used effectively for the treatment of scars resulting from acne and chickenpox. However, Kelo-cote^® is not indicated for the use on active acne or broken skin.

The Kelo-cote^® layer will dissipate as your skin cells naturally exfoliate, approximately in 24 hours. If necessary, gently washing with soap and water should remove any remainder. It is not necessary to remove the entire Kelo-cote^® layer prior to re-application.

Kelo-cote^® can help heal older scars as well as newer scars. Best results will occur when there is still healing taking place. Signs of healing include redness, itching, irritation, and continuing growth of the scar. If any of these signs are present, regardless of the age of the scar, Kelo-cote^® can improve the appearance of the scar.

Unfortunately Kelo-cote^® can not address indented scars because there is simply no tissue to work with. Kelo-cote^® is, however, very helpful in obtaining a good healing result after dermabrasion, chemical peel or laser treatment.

If an infection is present, have it treated prior to beginning your Kelo-cote^® treatment. Do not apply any other product underneath Kelo-cote^® . Applying medications on top of Kelo-cote^® will have no effect because, by design, it will not be able to pass through the Kelo-cote^® membrane.

When your Kelo-cote^® is dry to the touch, it is "completely" dry.

Yes. Keloid can be very stubborn and usually return if surgically removed. Kelo-cote^® can help soften and flatten existing keloids, reduce the redness or discolouration associated with them and minimize any itching or irritation you are experiencing. If used post-surgery, Kelo-cote^® can help prevent keloids from forming or returning.

Yes. Kelo-cote^® addresses all types of scars from skin damage, including burns.

Although we have not conducted any clinical research on treating acne scars, anecdotal evidence supports reduction of acne with the use of Kelo-cote^® because it acts as a barrier to bacteria. If the scarring is raised and/or red, Kelo-cote^® can help by reducing the redness, itchiness and irritation as well as softening and flattening the raised portion. If the scarring is pitted or depressed, Kelo-cote^® alone cannot help. Dermabrasion or laser treatment followed by Kelo-cote^® during the healing process is the best treatment for this type of scar.

90 days is the recommended initial treatment period. Depending upon the scar's condition and age, treatment could be a bit shorter or longer.

The timing of results varies greatly from person to person. You should see improvement within 90 days. Reduction of redness and itching are usually the first results noted.

If you are still progressing at 90 days, continue to apply Kelo-cote^® until you are no longer seeing improvement.

You can start to apply Kelo-cote^® after the any stitches have been removed and the wound is no longer bleeding.

Kelo-cote^® is safe to use during pregancy for both mother and unborn child.

There are no known allergies to Kelo-cote^® , either remote/distant or on site. Kelo-cote^® is an inert biocompatible non-transdermal polymer. We have completed sensitivity and acute toxicity testing on Kelo-cote^® with no noted reactions.

Kelo-cote^® is highly effective on raised and/or reddish coloured scars regardless of their age. It will help to soften and flatten raised scars and reduce any redness or discolouration associated with them. It will also reduce any itching or irritation you may still be experiencing.

Kelo-cote^® is effective on all types of skin, no matter what colour or shade.

No. Kelo-cote^® addresses external skin damage only.

There is no need to use tape over Kelo-cote^® . If the scar is on an area of the body that may get bumped and scraped, cover it with gauze or a silicone pad.

Yes. Kelo-cote^® does not enter the bloodstream. It simply adheres to the surface of the skin, blocking potentially harmful bacteria.

Kelo-cote^® acts as a barrier to bacteria. It is the body's reaction to bacteria that causes the darkness/redness as it sends more blood (white blood cells) to the damaged site. When bacteria no longer penetrates the scar, the extra white blood cells are not needed and the colour returns to normal.

Yes. Kelo-cote^® goes through an evaporation process during the drying phase which may cause the eyes to sting temporarily. This stinging will cause no harm.

If Kelo-cote^® enters the eyes it will cause some stinging but will do no harm. Your eyes will flush themselves out over a short period of time. Eye drops may help alleviate the stinging.

As with acne and facial pores, we have no completed research on stretch mark effectiveness.

Kelo-cote^® will not harm your hair. There is no effect, either negative or positive, from Kelo-cote^® on hair.
